McGrath 'delighted' at sugar tax introduction

LACA chair Peter McGrath has welcomed the Chancellor's announcement that a sugar tax will be introduced in April 2018, hailing it as a positive step towards the long-awaited obesity strategy.
McGrath, said: "LACA are delighted to see that the Chancellor and Government are taking the issue of childhood obesity seriously.
"While nutritional standards in schools ensure that children are fed well-balanced meals during the day, outside of school hours high sugar consumption is inflating levels of obesity to worrying levels.
"We look forward to seeing the Government’s full strategy for tackling this health epidemic later in the year, but the levy on sugary drinks represents a commendable first step.”
