National School Meals Week unveils ‘Come Dine With Us’ theme

07 Nov 2023
The theme for the second day of National School Meals Week is ‘Come Dine With Us’ as LACA calls on parents and guardians to enjoy a healthy and nutritious school lunch.

During a promotional video, chair of LACA Anita Brown said: “For those who plan to pick up on today’s theme ‘Come Dine With Us’, we know some of you will be inviting parents in to see what a modern day school lunch really looks like. Have a fantastic day.

“The school meals industry is a multi-million pound operation serving hundreds of thousands of nutritious meals to youngsters daily. For many of us it means serving school food during the holidays as well. Parents are often surprised when they try a school meal at a parents evening or when they receive the menus through the post or via an email or the school website.

“The dining environments are also a surprise for many as they are very welcoming and the staff are always professional and knowledgeable. The rise in allergies means our staff have to be at the top of their game each day and I am very proud to be chair of LACA who represent these amazing people who give so much to ensure they provide a beautiful nutritious meal that is appreciated by the pupils.

“Our industry is always on the look-out for staff, many of whom are parents of pupils as the job fits in so well when their children are in school. ‘Come Dine With Us’ doesn’t mean just parents we of course want as many pupils as possible to enjoy the meals we serve.”
