Over two million children and teenagers registered for Healthy Eating Week 2015
More than 5,000 nursery, primary and secondary schools from across the UK have registered to participate in the British Nutrition Foundation’s (BNF) Healthy Eating Week 2015, which takes place from June 1st-5th.
Over two million school children and teenagers will be taking part in the week’s activities, designed to increase their knowledge and understanding of healthy eating, cooking and food provenance.
With six weeks still to go, there are already 1,000 more schools registered than at the same time last year, signalling that Healthy Eating Week 2015 will be the biggest and best ever.
Roy Ballam, education programme manager at the British Nutrition Foundation, said: “This is the third year we have staged Healthy Eating Week and, from previous years’ experience, there will be literally thousands of creative hands-on, written and digital projects taking place throughout the week as schools, up and down the UK, demonstrate their commitment to healthy eating, learning about new foods and their origins, and cooking.”
The BNF will be providing free Healthy Eating Week resources to all participating schools to support HealthyEating Week activities. Resources will include food cards, posters, activity ideas, a competition and daily health challenges. The challenges are structured into five themes: Breakfast, 5 A Day, Drink Plenty, Be Active and Try Something New.
Healthy Eating Week will also feature an online cook-a-longs, comprising recipe demonstrations for primary and secondary school age children to participate in during the week.
