Parliamentary breakthrough on food standards compliance

13 Mar 2012

The battle to persuade the Government to review its decision to exempt academies and free schools from complying with national food standards has today entered the parliamentary arena.

LACA is supporting the action of MP Zac Goldsmith in tabling an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons urging the Coalition to enforce school food standards across all schools.

Early Day Motions (EDMs) are formal motions submitted for debate in the House of Commons that are used to publicise the views of individual MPs, to draw attention to specific campaigns or to show the extent of parliamentary support for a particular cause or point of view.

LACA, together with the Jamie Oliver Foundation, Children’s Food Campaign, Food for Life Partnership and School Food Matters, is launching a joint school meal standards campaign to persuade MPs to sign the EDM.  The more MP signatures we achieve, the more impact the EDM will have in persuading the Government to amend the legislation to apply one set of school meal standards for all pupils.

We need LACA Members to support the campaign NOW by asking their MP to sign the EDM.  All you have to do is click on the link below to the SOS Campaign website, fill in your details on the form and submit.  If you are not sure who your MP is, this will be worked out for you when you complete your postcode.

Please support the School Meal Standards Campaign.  Thank you.
