Potato Council offers Olympic workshop opportunity with gymnast Beth Tweddle

17 Feb 2015

Secondary schools across the country could be in with the chance of winning a workshop session with Olympic gymnast, Beth Tweddle in the Potato Council’s new Cook Your Own Potatoes (CYOP) educational project.

Britain’s most successful gymnast, Beth Tweddle, included baked potatoes as part of her diet while training on the way to medal success and is now teaming up with the Potato Council to promote the natural goodness of potatoes to school children.

To enter the competition, Key Stage Three pupils need to design an eye-catching poster on the theme of ‘Potato Power: Food for Sport’. Any sport can be depicted, but must illustrate how potatoes diet into a healthy, balanced diet. Posters must be A2 in size and can be designed digitally or by hand.

A special ‘Potato Power’ educational pack has been created to support the Cook Your Own Potatoes project and poster competition. Aimed at food technology teachers, the pack includes a factsheet with information about the nutritional benefits of potatoes as well as details about Beth’s sporting career.

Once a winner has been chosen, Potato Council will arrange for Beth Tweddle MBE to visit the winner’s school to host a special educational workshop. The winning design may also be included in Potato Council’s series of posters, which will be made available to other schools throughout the country.

Entries will only be accepted from teachers (not pupils) and need to be submitted by email to cyop@potato.ahdb.org.uk by Saturday 14th March 2015.

The CYOP project is designed to encourage pupils aged 11 to 14 to set up good habits for life, using nutritional ingredients to develop meals.
