Public Health England to host key vitamin D seminar
The Evidence into Practice and Policy: Implementing Nutrition Guidance, Including Vitamin D event will take place on November 28th, bringing together representatives of local government, clinical commissioning groups, the third sector, academia and frontline practitioners.
The event forms part of a series of Evidence into Practice seminars which aim to support the implementation of evidence-based practice, aligned with the launch of new NICE public health guidance. The event will talk about the pragmatic challenges and solutions to implementation in the real world.
Employing a theme of implementing current guidance on nutrition, the event will be framed around new NICE guidance on improving implementation of current government advice for the prevention of vitamin D deficiency (to be published on 26 November 2014). The programme will include a panel which will discuss and answer questions about the NICE guidance as well as presentations from speakers with experience in improving uptake of Healthy Start vitamins and with expertise in the field of behaviour change. Afternoon workshops will provide an opportunity for delegates to share examples of best practice and discuss the barriers and enablers to translation of a range of nutrition-related guidance and standards in local authority and other settings.
This guideline aims to improve the implementation of existing recommendations on vitamin D to prevent deficiency. It focuses, in particular, on vitamin D supplements for at risk groups previously identified by the UK Health Departments, UK Chief Medical Officers the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition, and NICE. The importance of safe sun exposure to prevent vitamin D deficiency is covered in a separate NICE guideline.
This event will be co-hosted by the National Osteoporosis Society and has been developed in partnership with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
The seminar takes place on November 28th 2014 at Nottingham Conference Centre, Nottingham. Please book your place as soon as possible if you would like to attend www.phe-events.org.uk/eippnice
