Public Sector Catering Awards celebrate excellence in school food

The Public Sector Catering Awards, which took place on 7 April at the London Hilton Metropole, celebrated excellence across the school food sector.

Jeremey Vine was the host of the PSC Awards night, which was attended by over 500 people from the public sector catering industry. There was an additional award for Industry Recognition that was presented to Nadim and Tanya Ednan-Laperouse for their work in raising awareness of food allergies.

Enfield Council Catering Services won the Contract Caterer of the Year Award (sponsored by Unilever Food Solutions). As part of a policy to address the root causes of poverty in the borough, Enfield Council is committed to providing high-quality school meals.

The Sandbach School Catering Team won the Education Catering Award (sponsored by Premier Foods). Sandbach School catering is a new in-house endeavour born out of the pandemic which has revolutionised the food service putting good food at the heart of the school.

Torfaen School Catering won the Innovation Award (sponsored by Young’s Foodservice). Integral to the success of these arrangements was ensuring all catering staff were trained in Autism Awareness and were able to reduce anxieties around school mealtimes.

Andrea Moore from London Borough of Waltham Forest won the Unsung Hero Award (sponsored by Civica). Andrea offers reassurance to all, spreading her positive attitude across the whole of Waltham Forest Catering.

Andy Jones, chair of the PSC100 Group, won the Lifetime Achievement Award (sponsored by Hobart UK). He helped lead the way on the Group’s ‘20% Less But Better Meat’ campaign, which was designed to encourage and support caterers as they responded to public demand for more plant-based dishes on menus.
