Raheem Morgan from Chartwells has become the eighth person to qualify for the School Chef of the Year (SCOTY) national final, which will be taking place at the LACA Main Event.

This will be Raheem’s fourth SCOTY final and having finished runner-up in 2021 and 2022 he will be aiming to go one place further this time around. The SCOTY competition aims to show the high quality of school meals and the contribution they make to the health and wellbeing of children.

In the London regional final he created a main course of crispy Asian fishcake, carrot and black kale kimpira, edamame bean puree, wasabi mayonnaise. He described the dish as a flavour packed fishcake with interesting spices, herbs and accompaniments.

For dessert Raheem made lime coconut cheesecake, cherry compote, apple and basil. It was a deconstructed cheesecake with flavour pairings to match his main course.

During the 2022 SCOTY final, Raheem won the ‘Grab and Go’ Award for his Loaded Quorn Corn savoury waffle, topped with avocado, tomato and crème fraiche inspired by a traditional Jamaican corn fritter.

The regional finalists and up to two wild card competitors will take part in the national final at the LACA Main Event on Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th July 2023. School meal providers can register for free entry to the School Food Show to watch the competitors in action.
