School children want spicier curries in Santa Maria research

12 Jul 2016

A new report published by Santa Maria Foodservice has found that 61% of children want spicier curries and over 40% want more interesting food for their school meals.

Eimear Owens, country sales manager UK & Ireland, Santa Maria Foodservice, said: “Rather than second-guessing what children want to eat for school dinner, we decided to ask them.

“The results suggest that children aren’t at all conservative when it comes to food and want more variety of taste and flavour.

“The survey suggests that school caterers can potentially increase their uptake of school meals by offering a more diverse menu, particularly when it comes to older children.”

The report, entitled ‘School Meals: What Kids Want’, found that only 49% were positive about school meals because of a lack of choice. Older children wanted flavours like Mexican (51%), South American (38%), and Thai (30%).
