School cooks partner with Michelin-star chef for NSMW
Two school cooks from the North East are teaming up with top Newcastle chefs, Kenny Atkinson and Dave Coulson as part of National School Meals Week.
School cook Gail, from East Herrington Primary School in Sunderland went to the House of Tides restaurant yesterday to experience a day in the life of a commercial kitchen. School cook Susan, from Bedlingtonshire Community High School in Northumberland will take her turn today as part of Peace and Loaf restaurant’s high-pressure team.
Michelin-star chef Kenny Atkinson said: “Gail and Susan represent the hundreds of school cooks who work hard to prepare, cook and serve thousands of nutritious, well balanced and healthy school meals every day, and we were delighted to be able to support that in our own way.”
National School Meals Week started on Monday with hundreds of school children and industry specialists participating in events.
