Schools, hospitals and leading organisations and businesses from the catering industry are to celebrate British food at this year’s British Food Fortnight.

Now in its 15th year, the event which runs from 23 September to 8 October will see Sodexo, Brakes, TUCO, HCA and Cucina, among many others, taking part by running special events across their sites.

Sodexo will be running British Food Fortnight promotions in approximately 600 of its sites, including schools, hospitals, prisons and corpates.

Brakes customers will be treated to a wide range of breakfast recipes with twists on favourite dishes, while the brand-new Brakes Airstream will be touring depots and offices across the UK and sharing British themed dishes with the workforce.

Celebrity chef, Mark Sargeant, will be hosting a morning of live cooking at Brakes food service offices in Covent Garden, where he will be preparing flavoursome and innovative dishes using the best British ingredients, and all taken from menus he has designed exclusively for the company.

NHS Foundation Trusts across the UK will be treating staff and patients to Chef’s Specials using locally sourced British meat and seasonal British vegetables.

Hospitals including Taunton, Newcastle University Foundation Trust, Nottingham University Trust and University Hospital Morecombe Bay Trust will be working with local suppliers, organising theme days as well as inviting suppliers on-site to showcase their produce.

500 schools across Hampshire will be having a 'British Food Fortnight' lunch on the 5 October thanks to the county's catering provider HC3S, which is holding similar events in the workplace and in the county's country park cafes and Discovery Centre cafes. HC3S is also running a competition with Riverford Organic in conjunction with Hampshire Fare offering as a prize two tickets available to visit Riverford and have a farm tour, tasting and cooking lesson.

The University Catering Organisation (TUCO) is running British Food Fortnight Student Guides on its website and e-newsletters plus supporting with a social media campaign and web banners.

Founder of Love British Food and British Food Fortnight, Alexia Robinson, said: “The support from foodservice outlets this year has been exceptional.

“Having so many high-profile organisations on board has prompted us to stage the first ever Love British Food  ‘Foodservice Summit’ in London during the Fortnight with all the big names taking part."
