Scottish school meals staff switch to helping feed elderly
In a report on its evening news programme The Nine, it said that council colleagues working in sheltered housing complexes approached schools to see if they could provide meals now that residents were no longer able to use communal areas due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Originally the council opened seven school hubs to provide the increase in meals, with council key workers carrying out extra duties to meet demand.
The BBC Scotland report says there are now 26 hubs operating.
It’s not only the catering teams who have had to take on a different role, with drivers who normally ferry special needs children to school now co-opted to deliver meals to elderly sheltered housing residents.
