SCOTY 2015: Welsh final winner announced

Another place in the national final of LACA’s School Chef of the Year 2015, sponsored by Maggi from Nestlé Professional, has been settled following the Welsh final in Caerphilly.

The winner will now go forward to the national final at the Food Services Wing of Worthy Down Defence Logistics School near Winchester, Hampshire on May 20th. Presentations will be made to winners that evening at the Norton Park Hotel in Winchester.

The overall winner of the Regional Final and the new LACA Welsh School Chef of the Year 2015 is Kate Davies from St Gwladys Primary School, Bargoed, Caerphilly.

Her two winning dishes were:

Main Course: Spice Street 'Fire-Cracker' Chicken Curry Platter - Fire-cracker chicken curry, cauli-pilau rice, aloo dal paratha, roasted Indian potatoes & a trio of chutneys.

Dessert: Mango 'Lassi' style Yoghurt Pot with 'Coco' Biscuits - A zingy combination of fruity mango, rich yoghurt with lime served with chocolate and coconut biscuits.

Two highly commended awards were made. The highly commended main course award went to Tracey Lacey (right) from Whitchurch Lower School Secondary, Whitchurch, Cardiff.

Her winning main course dish was: Lamb and Leek Rogan Josh with Coconut and Leek Bhajis – A Welsh and Indian fusion dish based on street food concepts.

Ryan Woodhouse (lower, right) from Afon Taf High School Secondary, Merthyr Tydfil took the highly commended dessert award home.

His winning dessert dish was: Strawberry Yoghurt Panna Cotta Welsh cake with a strawberry and pineapple salsa.
