Support LACA chair’s 100k running challenge

15 Feb 2016

Peter McGrath, chair of the Lead Association of CAtering in Education (LACA), is on course to complete his 100k running challenge for the ‘Filling the Holiday Gap’ project.

The LACA chair plans to run 100k over the next 12 months around the LACA regions to raise £10,000 and awareness for the Filling the Holiday Gap summer provision projects.

Peter, said: “In my year as LACA Chair I really wanted to make a contribution to 'Filling the Holiday Gap' summer projects across the UK. It is a subject very close to my heart, not only from what difference it made to young people during my visit to Boston USA in 2014, but also personally during my own childhood.

“I spoke to a few people prior to embarking and all thought it was a good idea, although one or two did question my sanity, ‘you’re no spring chicken’ and ‘the joints are not what they use to be’, but I was blown away by the level of support and commitment to sponsor. So rather than just talk about it I wanted to actually do something.

“I started last autumn after initial training in the summer (that was hard work) and I eventually got up to speed.

“My aim is to run at least 10 x 10km, one in each of the LACA regions across the UK and I have done 2 in Wales, London, Yorkshire and East midlands, so far.

“I am really looking forward to the run in Northern Ireland. I would like to complete all runs fitness and old age permitting by May 2016.”

So far, Peter has completed a run in Sheffield, Solihull, two runs in South Wales at Cardiff Bay and Pontyclun, Virginia Water, and Sunningdale.

Currently, there are further planned runs for Belfast, Salford, County Durham and Regents Park in London.
