Surrey pupils create recipes fit for an athlete
Surrey County Council's Commercial Services recently launched a Rio 2016 cooking competition in conjunction with Pelican Procurement Services, to encourage primary school pupils to design a two course meal fit for an athlete.
The council, which produces over 55,000 meals a day in around 330 schools, asked pupils to put together a recipe, test it at home and then submit it to Surrey’s ‘My School Lunch’ website.
Winners Leo and Tia Spanbok from Oatlands School in Weybridge won for their dishes of cheesy tuna bake followed by date crunchies.
As the winners, Leo, Tia and their parents enjoyed a day’s family cooking class with Chef patron Ben Piette in the cooking studio at the London House Restaurant in West Byfleet.
Mark Capper from Surrey Commercial Services, said: “We were inundated with submissions and received some excellent recipe suggestions from pupils across the county.
“The family assisted Ben in preparing and cooking a selection of restaurant dishes and then enjoyed the fruits of their labour.”
Runners-up will each receive prizes including a chef’s uniform, a baking set and a cookery book.
