Martine Wright lost both legs in the 7/7 terrorist attacks on the London underground. She has since rebuilt her life, skydived, learned to fly, and become a member of the British 2012 Paralympic volleyball team and will be telling delegates about her life at this year’s Main Event July 11-13.

She will be addressing delegates at 4pm on Wednesday, July 11th, which is now a full day of presentations and the exhibition.

Hers is a remarkable story of suffering and recovery, determination, inspiration and self-belief. Since her injury, she didn’t just qualify for the 2012 Paralympics with the British volleyball team, but also learned to fly a light aircraft, skydived from 10,000 feet, and learned to ski. She has also joined Channel 4’s Paralympic coverage team and written about her extraordinary life in her book, Unbroken.

Also joining the programme will be Candice Brown, the Great British Bake-Off winner, who will be demonstrating her take on a school compliant meal cooking to the LACA School Chef of the Year budget of £1.30 per head.

She will be cooking at a 10.45am workshop session on July 11th, while on Thursday 12th the cookery demonstration will be carried out by Cyrus Todiwala, who will offer his own ideas on cooking a school meal on the same budget.

Delivering the event’s keynote address on July 11th will be Dr Dawn Harper, from TV’s Channel 4 programme Embarrassing Bodies.

Dr Harper works as both an NHS doctor in Gloucestershire and a private doctor on Harley Street will discuss how LACA members can continue to shape a healthier  future for our children and pose the question whether this could actually help save the NHS.

Topics covered will include her work with Public Health England’s Change4Life Campaign; insights from the most recent Childhood Obesity Summit as well getting to the ‘Fat of the Matter’, talking about the cost of Type 2 diabetes and how childhood eating habits tend to pass into adulthood.

Other highlights of the full, three-day programme include Finishing Touches, the salon culinaire, and LACA’s Awards for Excellence gala dinner.  You can find out more at www.lacamainevent.co.uk
