Tower Hamlets schools make sugar & salt reduction a top priority

16 Dec 2024
Following in the footsteps of other councils, Contract Catering Services in the London borough of Tower Hamlets is the latest to make the move to further reduce salt and sugar on its school menus.

Schools in Tower Hamlets have switched from its standard school ketchup offering to 14 allergen free Real Good Ketchup, which is specially designed for children. This month 16,000 school meals served across 56 schools will reap the benefits of the sugar and salt reduction.

With 75% less sugar and 80% less salt than other named brands, Real Good Ketchup will give schoolchildren a healthier choice and removes the equivalent of a sugar cube from every plate at mealtimes.

Liz Jones, founder of Real Good Ketchup, said: “We are delighted with this switch through Contract Catering Services, who work closely with Tower Hamlet’s Public Health and the Healthy Life team on sugar reduction,

“Our mission is to reach as many children as possible at mealtimes offering the enjoyment of our ketchup without the high sugar and salt levels whilst supporting school caterers achieve their sugar reduction targets at the same time.”
