TV doctor promotes school milk scheme

Pupils at Four Marks Church of England Primary School in Alton, Hampshire met television’s Dr Hilary Jones when he came to talk to them about the importance of drinking milk.

Celebrity GP Dr Hilary Jones is best known for his role on the ITV’s Daybreak couch in the mornings discussing various health issues.

But he took a break from the TV studios visit the children at Four Marks C of E Primary School to mark the start of their school milk scheme.

Head teacher Andrew Goldsworthy said: “We started up our milk scheme as children under five are entitled to free school milk and we didn’t want our pupils to miss out.

“It was very exciting for Dr Hilary to come in and we got to show off our fantastic milk project work.”

Dr Hilary said: “It was lovely to come into the school today. The children are very enthusiastic about drinking their milk and they even showed me their milk moustaches.”

The day was arranged by Cool Milk, which runs school milk schemes on behalf of schools in the UK. Cool Milk deals with the administration, paperwork claims and dairies so that school staff can get on with the most important task – teaching.

Every child under the age of five is entitled to a free 189ml serving of milk while at school.

Cool Milk works in partnership with more than 85 local authorities and over 18,000 schools and nurseries to provide free and subsidised school milk to over half a million children every day.
