Following the late withdrawal of full-time GP and best-selling author Dr Amir Khan from the conference programme at LACA’s Main Event (July 3-4), television presenter and journalist Kate Quilton has stepped up to take the keynote session slot.

The 40-year-old is best known for presenting a number of Channel 4 television series, including Food Unwrapped since 2012, with co-presenter Jimmy Doherty.

She will be calling on her knowledge and experience to address the school meals audience on Thursday, July 4 at 3.45pm.

It was while she was at the University of Bristol that Kate undertook a student equivalent of Morgan Spurlock's ‘Super Size Me’ challenge, by eating kebabs for one week for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The stunt was picked-up by national media and she began her career in television while still a student, working for ITV and the BBC.

She then went on to work as a broadcast journalist in Somerset for the BBC, spending a lot of her time with farmers, and reporting mostly on food.

She has since worked on Food Unwrapped for Channel 4 over 12 years, while in 2015 she also presented Superfoods: The Real Story, a four-part series for the channel that returned for a second series of six episodes in 2016.

She has also worked on a number of food-themed editions of Channel 4’s Dispatches programme investigating issues such as the safety of formula milk and chlorinated chicken.

Last year she fronted episodes dealing with rising food prices and how safe turkey meat is to eat.
