17 Jun 2015

Foodservice equipment manufacturer Victor Manufacturing has helped South Tyneside school, St Wilfrid’s RC College, win the North East & Scotland LACA Catering Operation Award for Innovation for its state-of-the-art kitchen and dining facilities.

Victor Manufacturing worked with the catering management team at South Tyneside Council, senior leaders at St Wilfrid’s RC College, South Shields and distributor Sigma Catering Equipment to design and supply a new counter and servery units to improve the dining experience of the 825 students at the college.

These have been used to create a hot food point, deli station, omelette bar and self-serve station for grab and go snacks, enabling caterers to serve hot and cold dishes in line with the latest food trends and new school food standards.

Three till points have been introduced to help caterers serve pupils faster, alleviating queues and bottlenecks. The project was part of the substantial refurbishment of the school’s kitchen and dining room which also included the installation of an outside pod kiosk serving coffee and pre-packed food.

Peter Brewin marketing and communications manager at Victor Manufacturing, said: “We have significant experience working in the education sector and understand that customers look for high quality counters that meet their specific needs, deliver on functionality and design, and ensure that pupils have a great dining experience.

“Millenials, or people born at the end of the century, have a much broader and varied experience of eating out of home and they bring their knowledge, experience and expectations to school.

“We collaborated with the school, South Tyneside Council and Sigma Catering Equipment to ensure that the new dining room looks great, improves service and gives pupils a foodie environment they’ll want to return to every day.”
