Welsh holiday schemes to get £500,000 of funding
The funding will support holiday schemes across Wales that help feed and entertain children outside of term time.
The BBC reports that Williams, said: "Children who benefit from free school breakfasts and lunches often miss meals and go hungry once their school closes for the holidays, while the lack of free play schemes and sports activities can have an impact on those from the most disadvantaged backgrounds."
During the summer in Cardiff 11 schools piloted an enrichment programme and it was also piloted across four other Welsh authorities. Cardiff Council's Food and Fun programme also recently won a Springboard Award for Excellence.
Judith Gregory, senior client officer for education catering at Cardiff Council, said: “This is an important step in developing the Food and Fun model throughout Wales. It will give children the opportunity to have healthy meals, be more active, reduce learning loss and have lots of fun during the school holidays, whilst also making the most of school facilities and staff."
