Yorkshire and Humber SCOTY regional winner announced

Matt Betts, employed by BMBC Schools Catering Service in Barnsley was announced as the Yorkshire and Humber regional School Chef of the Year sponsored by McDougalls winner yesterday (16 January).

He had 90 minutes to prepare four portions of a main course and a dessert suitable for serving to 11 year olds in school. 

His two winning dishes were: Matt's Marvellous Mackerel Tacos - battered mackerel strips, tomato, pepper and onion concasse on iceberg lettuce and tortilla, basmati and wild rice, vegetables served with a dessert of strawberry supermousse with shortbread bat biscuit.

He now goes on to compete against nine other Regional Champions in the National Final to be held on 7 March 2019 in Stratford upon Avon.

Second place went to James Brown from York, employed and based at Queen Ethelburga’s.

His main was local outdoor reared pork buns, lime and chilli dip with a dessert of cucumber, lime and lemon cheesecake and blackberry compote.
