A group of pupils from Chapter House Preparatory School in York were crowned McDougalls Young Baking Team of the Year at this year’s LACA: The Main Event on 6 July.

The students won the prestigious accolade thanks to their ‘Queen Ethelburga’s Mess’ creation, a recipe which included fresh strawberries, garden mints and locally sourced eggs which met the local produce theme of the competition.

Schools minister Nick Gibb yesterday confirmed that the Government has shelved any plans it might have had to get rid of universal infant free school meals (UIFSM).

ASA advertising food fat high salt sugar

Tough new rules banning the advertising of high fat, salt or sugar (HFSS) food or drink products in children’s media came into force on July 1, according to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). The rules will apply across all non-broadcast media including print and cinema, as well as online and in social media.

The rules will apply in media targeted at under-16s, and here's what they include:

* Ads that directly or indirectly promote an HFSS product cannot appear in children’s media.

* Ads for HFSS products cannot appear in other media where children make up over 25% of the audience....

​Following the Government's Queens Speech, the Lead Association for CAtering in Education (LACA) welcomes the omission of the pledge to scrap universal infant free school meals (UIFSM), says national chair Sally Shadrack. LACA updates on marathon challenge for National School Meals Week

Karen Robinson from the National School Meals Week team will run the equivalent of five marathons in the five days of LACA’s annual NSMW event in November.

Nine school caterers have been announced as finalists for the national Big School Bake Off competition, which will take place at the LACA Main Event on Thursday, July 6th.
