Essex County Council are seeking to appoint a senior school meals support manager to join its county wide support team responsible for the development and delivery of services to secondary schools and the development and delivery of the service’s training offer.

Chelmsford Based

Permanent contract, 37hrs per week term time plus 3 weeks

Actual salary within the range £30,000- £40,000

Candidates will have a strong management background gained within a catering and training sector ideally with some experience of school/public sector environment. The post will be responsible for developing and co-delivering training packages to support income generation as the service becomes fully traded in the future.

The post holder will work county wide use of your own car is essential and a mileage allowance will be paid.

The post holder will also deputise for the Head of School Meals Support and Advice Service as required.

This is an exciting role in an emerging department and to succeed, you will need excellent organisational and communication skills, sound IT experience (word and excel packages) and you must  be sensitive and diplomatic to the individual needs of each customer and support them in delivering excellent services for the people of Essex.

Knowledge, skills and experience required

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent by significant experience in the relevant area
  • A sound working knowledge and experience of service delivery in a multi-disciplinary environment with a proven track record of success in identifying, planning for and delivering new business opportunities that meet both customer requirements and budget parameters.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team and work across cultural and organisational boundaries
  • Ability to initiate, innovate, develop and follow through self-directed work
  • Skilled in performance and relationship management, negotiating, influencing and motivating situations, with strong interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
  • Successful experience of managing at least 3 strands of the role: business planning, marketing, communications, information related issues, in a relevant context
  • Ability to manage and affect change and balance workload priorities.
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic strategic leader.
