Free workshops to take place at 2025 LACA Main Event

30 May 2025
Three workshop sessions will be held at the LACA Main Event, which is taking place at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole from 8-9th July 2025.

The informative workshop sessions will return offering practical advice on key operational issues, explore the impact of new legislation and share best practice case studies. The workshops are free to attend and open to both visitors and delegates. The sessions, which will take place on Tuesday include:

  • Workshop 1 (10.30-11) - The Allergen Challenge
Jan Parnell & Olivia Oakley, Natasha Allergy Research Foundation

Discover the Foundation’s vital work to date, including examples from schools that are using its resources to develop allergy-aware programmes.

  • Workshop 2 (11-11.30) - Ultra-Processed Foods or Home Grown Veg?
    Stephen Forster, LACA

This session isn’t about demonising ultra-processed foods – or their manufacturers – but about fostering a greater understanding of how these products have shaped our industry, our bodies, and our lives. Attendees are encouraged to keep a food diary for a week prior to the session, marking anything considered ultra-processed with a red star.

  • Workshop 3 (11.30-12) - LACA Ask the Experts
With Michael Hales, LACA national vice chair; Brad Pearce, LACA vice chair elect and Bryan Lygate, LACA board member

A panel Q&A where school caterers, managers, and sector professionals can ask questions on the day or submit them in advance.

Whether you’re looking for inspiration, guidance, or practical tools, the workshops are an essential part of the event.

The School Food Show, running alongside the LACA Main Event is free to attend for school caterers, managers and contract caterers. It is an unrivalled opportunity to source new ideas and innovations and compare a range of suppliers under one roof. Over 160 exhibitors will showcase food and beverages, equipment, systems and services.
