London, South East and South West SCOTY 2017 regional finalists announced

The London, South East and South West LACA School Chef of the Year 2017 regional winners have been confirmed ahead of the National Final in March.

The LACA School Chef of the Year Competition is sponsored by MAGGI from Nestle Professional and the National Final will take place at Stratford Upon Avon College in March. 

On Monday in the South East regional final, Barry Brewington from Medway UTC in Chatham, Kent (Greenwich Service Solutions) was anounced as the regional winner. 

Brewington's main course was spicy pork meatballs, humous, pomegranate, and giant couscous. For dessert he made Panna Cotta, Bramley apple, shredded wheat flapjack, and berry compote.

Colin Wilson from Chesham Grammar School in Chesham, Bucks was awarded the Highly Commended Main Course title for his Grammar's Chesham chicken - coconut chicken served with flat bread, vegetable ragu and vegetable pillaf.

Sharon Christine Merret from The Forest in Winner, Wokingham (Caterlink) won the Highly Commended Dessert award for her cucumber and lemon cake.

In the London regional final Terri Carpenter (right) from Torriano Infants in the London Borough of Camden was crowned regional winner. 

The Caterlink chef's main course was chilli twist chicken, savoury rice, tortilla bread, corn and salad, and she made mango lime and coconut cake served with passion fruit creme fraiche for dessert. 

The Highly Commended Main Course award went to Chartwells chef, Dionne Lazarus from Newfield Primary School in the London Borough of Brent for her 'smarty pants creamy vegetable curry with rice' - creamy vegetable curry packed full of vegetables that taste good but have hidden health benefits - thats smart!

Lisa Morris from Manor Longbridge Primary School in the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham won the Highly Commended Dessert Award for her mandarin and coconut crumble cake with chantilly cream and orange coulis. 

In the South West regional final Steve Fowell (right) of Mendip Green Primary School in Weston-super-Mare was crowned the regional winner. 

Fowell's main course was 'yummy in your tummy buttery curry' - chickpea butter curry served with savoury rice, fresh salad and coconut cucumber raita. For dessert he made a 'melt in the mouth baked coconut custard' - baked coconut custard, sprinkled with coconut and topped with a strawberry.

Catherine Deane of Yealmpton Primary School in Plymouth (Devon Norse) won the Highly Commended Main Course for a fish Thai green curry with cauliflower rice, potato flatbread and salsa. 

The Highly Commended Dessert award went to Tracy Dawson of Archbishop Wake Primary School in Blandford Forum in Dorset for her 'strawberry dream' - fluffy strawberry mousse on a crispy cocoa base with a delicious, fruity and strawberry layer.
