Students at Reepham High School took part in a Junior Masterchef competition, as part of the Reepham Food Festival on May 27.

The competition was organised by Mrs Angela Gibbs, head of food and catering at the school, and was sponsored by school and care home service provider, Norse Catering.

The contestants developed recipe ideas for two courses with a spring or summer theme, to be produced from local ingredients for less than £15.

Shirley Peet, marketing and brand manager for Norse, said: “As long-term supporters of Norfolk Food and Drink, Norse Catering loves to get involved in events that celebrate local food and creative cooking so being a judge for ‘Junior Masterchef’ at Reepham High School was a fantastic experience!

“We were genuinely blown away by the talent demonstrated by the students taking part. We know that an interest in food and cooking can integrate in to the lives of young people and develop in to a life-long passion for fresh, innovative plates of food.”

The twelve finalists produced their meals on May 11, judged by Norse development chef, Gary Dyos, Charlie Hodson of Norfolk Food Heroes and Trevor Nelson, Reepham rotary president.

The winner, Ollie Marston, will receive £100 and kitchen experience with the Dial House restaurant in Reepham. Runners up will take home £50 and £25.

The Reepham Food Festival, organised by Reepham and District Rotary Club, involves meals, cookery demonstrations and 50 stalls from local food producers, along with activities at Reepham Primary and High Schools.
