27 Mar 2023
City Catering Southampton, a local charity that servers school food and care meals throughout the city, started working on a project called Cooking at Home to ‘inspire’, empower and support households with healthy food.

The charity provides recipe-led grocery boxes to enable families to enjoy healthy, nutritious and accessible meals developed by their food development team. Since the Summer of 2020, the charity has distributed over 13,100 Cooking at Home boxes to Southampton families, this equates to 183,296 meals.

City Catering Southampton received funding from Southampton City Council to distribute a further 1,200 Cooking at Home boxes, to support local families over the Easter holiday.

Martin Orman, chief operating officer at City Catering Southampton, said: “We are extremely passionate about our Cooking at Home initiative and the benefits it provides to local families. As a local catering charity, we want to help families tackle holiday hunger with our community project. The cost of living crisis has only exacerbated the situation and even more families than ever need our help.”

The Easter Cooking at Home boxes will contain all the ingredients needed to make five simple, tasty, family-friendly recipes. The recipes include One Pot Tomato & Mascarpone Pasta, Roasted Vegetable & Cheese Frittata, Simple Homemade Pizza, Tuna & Sweetcorn Jacket Melt and Easy Flatbreads.
